Active School

Active School

Active Minds, Active Bodies

In Tullamore ETNS, we take great pride in being an active school and in promoting the importance of physical activity, teamwork and wellbeing throughout our school community. We believe that participation in sport and movement plays a vital role in supporting children’s physical health, confidence, social development and overall wellbeing. Throughout the school year, our pupils are given opportunities to take part in a wide variety of activities including Gaelic football, hurling, camogie, athletics, rugby, soccer, hockey, swimming and more. We are very fortunate to work alongside organisations such as Offaly Sports Partnership, Tullamore GAA, Leinster Rugby and the FAI, who support our pupils through coaching programmes and sporting initiatives.

At Tullamore ETNS, we are committed to encouraging all children to be active and to develop a lifelong love of movement and sport. Each year, we celebrate Active School Week with a range of fun daily activities and challenges that allow every child to get involved and enjoy being active. We are also proud to have been awarded our Amber Flag in June 2022 in recognition of the work carried out across the school to promote positive mental health and wellbeing. Through sport, teamwork and wellbeing initiatives, we continue to foster a happy, healthy and inclusive environment where every child is encouraged to participate, achieve and thrive.

Active School Flag

Working Towards an Active School

Active School Flag (ASF) is a Department of Education initiative supported by Healthy Ireland, and part of the National Physical Activity Plan.

The ASF initiative provides schools with a framework to guide, support and incentivise everyone to work towards achieving a physically educated and physically active school community. The process aims to get more schools, more active, more often. The school active flag status is evaluated across three areas: Physical Education, Physical Activity and Partnerships. We in Tullamore ETNS have developed strong links with local sports clubs (Tullamore GAA, Tullamore RFC, Tullamore Town FC, Offaly Sport Partnership, Aura Swimming Pool) to provide a variety of experiences for our children and to promote a healthy and active lifestyle.
