What Does a Student Council Do?
Our Student Council is a representative structure for the students, through which they can become involved in the affairs of the school, working in partnership with school management, staff and parents for the benefit of the school and the students.
The aim of the Student Council is to provide students with greater involvement in the decision making procedures of our school, help them to learn about democracy and to encourage our students to be active citizens. Generally two children from each senior (3rd – 6th) class are elected by secret ballot and are appointed as representatives for their class to the council for the duration of the school year. Elected members will also assume responsibility for representing the views of assigned Junior Classes (JI – 2nd).
Our Student Council generally meets several times each term. These meetings are facilitated by our principal. The Student Council members collect ideas and suggestions for the agenda from each class ahead of each meeting. Suggestions are then discussed and prioritised.
